Because I enjoyed the blue-brown portrait a lot and because my painting time is very limited these days and because painting with just two colors doesn't require too much brain power, I decided to try again.
This one is Van Dyke Brown Hue + Pyrrole Red (+Titanium White).
And this one the same brown + C.P. Cadmium Orange (+white)
I painted them both in my moleskine journal. Wish I had a layer of gesso, the paint would look more creamy, but I didn't have the patience to wait for gesso to dry.
Interesting how the left one seems cold compared to the right one...
I think that this is a fun way to explore color, so I'll probably continue.
Which one do you like more - red or orange?
They are both WONDERFUL....but if I had to pick my favorite of the two I'd vote for the warmer skin tones of the Cad orange paining.
ReplyDeleteHope you had a great Christmas!!

Cadmium orange/the warmer one is totally awesome. I like them both really. Great work. Hope your Christmas was great. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteSo interesting to see them side by side--with just the difference of one color--what a difference in the paintings. I think I like the one with the pyrole red, altho both are wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of just pickng two colours, the red one is my favourite =)
ReplyDeleteJust found you and your beautiful art again....
ReplyDeleteHappy Holidays.
Love them both!! Love the limited palette! If I had to choose I would say the red is my fav! I am a sucker for rosy cheeks! :)
ReplyDeletebeing a redhead in a family of redheads I love the red one lol!
ReplyDeleteBoth are wonderful, the red one is my favorite, but the skin on the orange is more natural and warm. Happy Holidays!!
ReplyDeleteHard to choose. I'm going with the orange tho. I might be influenced by the fact that it is cold here and she looks warm.
