Can't make up my mind

They say it is very important for every artist to have their style, a body of work that is connected, that is immediately recognizable... I've been painting a good number of years now, and it hasn't happened yet. I wonder will it ever happen, will I ever be able to make up my mind.
I painted this extra busy, highly textured, colorful abstract yesterday,
and this calm, light toned, simple painting today.
I wonder what does it say about me...
One interesting thing - I finished this painting and placed it in front of the TV so that I can look at it (and see if I want to change anything) and watch the final Oprah show at the same time. Can you imagine my surprise when she walked out in a dress almost the same size as my painting? It was cool.

  1. When I saw your first piece, the abstract I thought wish I had done that and that it was an art quilt. Gosh I don't have time to quilt right now.

Maybe your work is more recognizable than you think. We often don't see our work the way others see it. For instance people often think we look like another family member or someone and we don't think so at all,

  3. I know what you mean about doing art that is instantly recognizable. Your faces are recognizable...but it's ok to do different things, I think. What do "they" know?

  4. I love both paintings, eventhough they are sooo different. And I would be sorry if you wouldn't painted both of them just to have one recognizable style.
Some artists or crafters decide to make just one type of paintings, one type of fabric toys or whatever they are doint.. Some are just always learning, seaking something new, developing..
You're just a traveler, always moving borders, discovering new ways ..

  5. why should an artist have only one voice or work in only one medium. there are so many exciting styles and mediums to work in - however - i think you have a very definite style to your work - which i love!:)

  6. I'll tell you what it says about you:

It says you are a wonderful multi talented lady with many strings to her bow, who does not shy away from what her heart is saying and paints with passion and pleasure.

What more could anyone want? :)

  7. I think we are all trying to find that 'elusive' thing....our very own 'style'.
You are such a talented woman and your style is very diverse. Love it!
Can see the Flora Bowley influence in your first, colourful piece.
    Happy painting.

  8. Zorana I love both of these pieces! And I know what you mean about wanting to find our style. I think you are amazing at all that you do! Do what speaks to your heart! Listen to the "whispers"! xo

  9. This is just the thing that I struggle with... I want to be a self-substaining artists so I also believe that I must find "a" style that I will be recognized for but I will never stop trying out different things. I believe we are ment to grow in our art and the only way that happens is through continual experimentation. I paint and work with clay, it just depends on the day and what I feel.
    ~I enjoy your work.

  10. I think you do have a unique style. Sometimes both of these paintings seem to have combined, I'm sure I've seen birds on an abstract background done with saturated colors.

Syle "evolves". When we see what we think of as an artists style we don't see all the other works that were done to get there.

  12. I think it says a lot about you...very versatile ,,,can go from one extreme to the other and is not stuck in a rut and can only do one thing...plus I think this changing up helps the creativity juices alive and well.....it works for me atleast:)

  13. I struggle with the same thing. Finding whatever it is that makes it uniquely mine. I think that is part of the process of being an artist. To always try new things, play, explore, and stretch. Maybe have more than one "style" should just be ok. Your work is beautiful.

  14. Do you have different moods? Do you have different feelings from day to day? Why then can't you also have different "voices" with your art? I think sticking with one thing is safe but to challenge yourself to venture into new areas is brave and it helps you grow. You may have several very different voices with your art. I think that's what makes a great artist.
