Journal page inspired by a book

Did you receive your copy of Misty Mawn's book "Unfurling"?
I did. And I read it cover to cover and will probably go back to soak up some more of Misty magic.
I took my journal; played with texture; quickly carved a stamp; tried not to use all colors in my paintbox; added some found "poetry" and finished happy.
Misty was always a huge inspiration to me and I'm really happy that now I can reach for her book whenever I want to.
Let me know if you have the book too.

  1. Oh yea, I have the book too. As a matter of fact, I took the her on line class, "Stretching within." I am thinking a lot of the material that was in her class came from the book. It is wonderful to have that reinforcement. Like yourself, Misty has always been a huge inspiration to me. She started me on the path to painting portraits and the human form. Still working on my style....

I do love this current work...it is a lovely tribute to a wonderful artist and person.

  2. My copy just arrived today in the mail and even with just a quick flip through I know I am going to enjoy it.

You've been VERY inspired and what you've created is a delight -- love that you've used so many of these ideas!

  4. I guess I'm in the minority. I have the book and was disappointed with it. Just seemed to be more of the same thing that every other book has lately. But that's just my opinion.

Your painting is so cool. I like the texture on her hat/head.

  10. I have to look a long time I like the fading in and fading out of the work around the face and the background. I always love vague and definite together. it has the lookof everything going just right, ease, and no power struggle with paint and inspiration. YOu did a really cool stamp. I am going to try and old wrinkled potatoe today when stamping.

My book should be here tomorrow, Misty's book, I want to read and understand beauty that comes with simplicity.

Don't forget your inspiration also, I don't want to be inspired the same way everytime I think to paint.

  11. Zorana your journal page is lovely!! Wow! Great portrait!! I too have Misty's book and love it! I was inspired to do a portrait sketch very freely after reading that chapter and loved how it came out! I was inspired! I missed her class "stretching to sketch" so I am glad I have this book!
